We gathered in a small farm just below Montone for a truffle hunt and dinner. Sergio’s dog Nopo has been trained to sniff out the elusive (and very expensive) treat, so our group trailed after him over hill and dale and gathered a big handful. I stayed behind (the hills were very steep), but got to share their booty. The owner’s mother and mother-in-law (Paola and Ava) and Rosella served us course after course of local, very fresh food with lots of their own wine. After dinner, Paola, Lisa (our guide), Sergio, and our bus driver began to serenade us. Then, various members of the group joined them in English and Italian. Mario and Ed both have wonderful voices.
